Lester Barger, age 74, a life long resident of Metropolis, IL, passed away at Baptist Health of Paducah on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Metropolis. Rev. Frank Forthman will officiate.
Lester had worked at Southern IL Steel in Metropolis, and retired as a mechanic after 20 years at EEI in Joppa. As a member of the Southern IL Washer Pitching Association, he was an avid and competitive washer pitcher. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, reading his bible and doing activities with his great-grand daughter. Lester was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Rosalee (O’Brien) Barger; one son, Jeff Barger and wife Jackie of Paducah, KY; his daughter, Penny Garner of Antioch, TN; 1 grandson, Cory Garner of West Chester, PA; 1 very special great-granddaughter, Lillie Garner of Metropolis; and 1 sister Ressie Powers of Metropolis. Lester is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bertha (Brown) Barger; 3 sisters, Jessie Shelton, Ruth Ramage, and Kathleen Giffin; and 1 infant brother, Ray.
There will be no visitation. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
