Walter Warren Vincent

Walter Warren Vincent, 76, of Concord, IL died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

He was born January 17, 1937 in Crackers Bend, Morgan County, IL, the son of John Woodward and Mary Ellen Peterson Vincent. He married Alberta Anne Rice on June 15, 1962 at Lake Hughes, CA and she preceded him in death on April 8, 1979. He later married Cathryn Louise “Cathy” Knoblock on August 15, 1992 in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by three children, Andy Vincent (wife, Tena) of Jacksonville, Shelly Banta (husband, Curtis) of Cocoa, FL, and Jenny Rentschler (husband, Jay) of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, John Guseman (fiancé, Amanda Coe), A.J. Vincent (fiancé, Brittney Eddy), Gus Vincent (companion, Karlee Dyson), Jimmy Guseman, Joey Guseman, Nick Rentschler, and Jayden Rentschler; two great grandchildren, Jaycee Ann Guseman and Alexis Anne Vincent; an expectant great grandchild, Sunni Kaye Guseman; five siblings, Joann Floyd (husband, Lawrence) of Arizona, David Vincent (wife, Vonnie) of Texas, Alonzo Vincent of Texas, Martha Stephenson (companion, Ron Johnson) of Morris, and Phyllis Musgrave (husband, Coil) of Burnt Prairie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Lee Spurlock; and a sister, Wanda Zulauf.

Mr. Vincent was a 1957 graduate of Chapin High School and served with the US Air Force from 1958-1964. Upon his return to the area, he worked with W.R Shaw Co. learning the heating and air conditioning trade. He established Vincent Heating and Air Conditioning which has served the area for many years. In addition, Mr. Vincent served as a general contractor and farmed part-time in the Concord area.

He was a member of Liter Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and supervised the construction of the Church’s new fellowship hall. He was a member of the Jacksonville Elks Lodge, Jacksonville Moose Lodge, and the Morgan County Saddle Club where he rode in area parades and volunteered at the Prairieland Heritage Museum. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, country line dancing with the former Bandits Dance Club, and calling square dances in communities throughout central Illinois.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial and military honors at Concord Cemetery in Concord. The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts are suggested to Liter Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent online at www.buchanancody.com.
