Dr. Daniel William Scott

Dr. Daniel William Scott III of Wayne, OK, passed away unexpectedly following an auto accident on Friday, May 17, 2013 in Wayne.

Dan was born on July 13 1930 in Galveston, Texas. He was one of four children. Dan’s parents were Daniel William Scott Jr. and Hilda Kristina Sophia Jacobson. Dan grew up in the Houston and Austin, Texas areas, graduating from Austin H.S. He later graduated with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin, completing his M.S. in 1952.

He married his first wife Martha Hayes in 1959, and to this union three children were born, John, David and Charlotte.

Dan worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the 1950’s, and then attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received his Ph.D. in Physics in 1962, doing research at the Alto Plano at La Paz, Bolivia.

During the 1960’s he worked for General Electric in the U.S. and Paris France. Later he worked as a computer engineer for Honeywell in Phoenix Arizona, and at U.C.C. Computing in Dallas, TX.

In 1971 he founded the department of Computer Science at what was then North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) in Denton, Texas. He taught at North Texas State for ten years serving most of that time as chairman of the department.

In the late 1980’s he worked as a professor at Portland State University in Portland Oregon, and for Teneron, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He retired to Wayne, Oklahoma in 2005, where he married his last wife, Elizabeth Griffith Bass. While living in Wayne, Dan attended St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Norman, OK. Throughout his life Dan he had a passion for science. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed talking about politic, current issues of the day, talking about old times, and watching old movies. In his younger years he enjoyed electric trains, making models and being in the outdoors and hiking.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents: Dan Jr. and Hilda He is survived by: His wife: Elizabeth of the home in Wayne, OK. His three children: John Mason Scott and wife Cassie Nutter of Dallas, Texas. David Robert Scott and wife Andrea Keppler-Scott of Baltimore, Maryland. Charlotte Marie Scott and husband Paul Lacourse of Exeter, New Hampshire. 5 grandchildren: Ryan Amato, Sierra Scott, Autumn Scott, Leah Scott, and Moshe Scott, 1 great Grandchild: Mason Bishop. One brother: Robert Scott and wife Dale of Wareham, Mass. One sister: Margaret Kellums and husband Rex of Ft Collins, CO. One ½ brother: Galen Scott and wife Jane of Houston, TX. Four step children: James Lee Bass and wife Patricia of Moosup, CT. Richard Eugene Bass of Tulsa, OK. Peter Jeffery Bass and wife Janice of Reeds Spring, MO. Charles Eric Bass of OKC. 13 step grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Norman, OK. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, OK. Memorials may be made in his memory to St. Michaels.
