Mary Margaret Burke (her friends know her as “Betty”) was born in Joplin, MO on November 30, 1925. She moved to San Francisco in 1945 where she met her husband Lloyd “Butch” Burke. Together they raised seven children and made their home one of warmth and laughter. After Lloyd’s passing in 1975, Betty moved to Palm Springs and eventually settled in Rohnert Park. She passed away at PVH on May 9, 2013. Betty’s two beloved sons, Michael and Mickey, were waiting for her in Heaven. Betty is survived by her five daughters- Kathy, Margaret, Marilyn, Marie and Millie, along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Betty loved shopping, traveling, the horse races, and trips to the casino; but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. She loved cooking for her family and hosting family events and holiday parties. Betty was always up for an adventure at a moments notice. “Just let me get my shoes on” was a common phrase to be heard spoken by her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was kind, generous, smart, and sassy. She saw the brighter side of every situation and lived her life with a firm belief that everything turns out okay and that life is good. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. She will be laid to rest at Golden Gate National Cemetery next to her beloved husband.
