Willie Mae Blocker, of Lawndale, Ca passed away on Tuesday May 7, 2013 at Torrance Memorial Hospital. She was 94, she was born on August 30, 1918 in Texas. She Graduated High School in House, New Mexico. In 1936 she married Preston Earl Blocker and together they had 2 sons, William and Richard. Willie Mae worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the 50”s and later in life, devoted herself to volunteer work with the Lawndale Beautification Committee. Through the committee, she spent her time judging Holiday Decoration Competitions, sponsoring programs for business and homes that significantly improved their appearances and took part in large scale projects that re-landscaped the medians of the city busy street, such as Hawthorne Blvd. A loving, brave and strong willed person, Willie Mae tended to her husband, Preston after he became ill and was later bed-ridden. She comforted and cared for him through his time of need, until his passing. She took great pleasure traveling the Southwest, through the deserts and cites of New Mexico. As the matriarch of the family, Willie Mae was often looked to for guidance and understanding from her family and her community. She will be greatly missed. Willie Mae is survived by her sons William and Richard, grandchildren Ronnette and Barry, great grand children; Amber, Melissa, Megan, Michael, Brandon and great-great granddaughter Mackenzie.
