John William Dover

John William Dover, 81, of Waterloo, IL, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2013 at Liberty Village of Maryville in Maryville, IL. He was born on February 12, 1932 in Mound City, IL, son of Mark and Mildred (Hayes) Dover. He married his sweetheart Patsy Sharon Woods on December 22, 1952. She survives in Waterloo, IL. John’s vocation was in the river barge industry. He retired from Cargill as Marine Supervisor in 1987, after 29 years employment. He then worked for the Riverway of St. Louis for 10 years until his final retirement in 1997 at the age of 65. John loved his family and was a good provider. In his better days, John loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yard work, and taking long walks with his wife. He was a member of New Life Church where he served in the nursing home ministry and enjoyed barbequing for church picnics. John is survived by Patsy, his wife of 60 years, and their three daughters: Marlene (Mark) Hinrichs of Fort Worth, TX, Karen (Tim) Bray of Sullivan, and Angela (Doug) Williams of Frohna. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two brothers: Harry Dover of Villa Ridge, IL and Bobby (Judy) Dover of Olmsted, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: George Dover, one sister: Elaine and four brothers: Mark Jr., Paul, Elmer and Mickey. Funeral Service will be held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, May 13 at 10:00 am with Pastor David Eckstadt officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 12 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and on Monday from 6:30 am until the time of Service at 10:00 am. Burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Perryville. Memorials are preferred for Alzheimer’s Association. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
