Dateline: DyersvilleVernon A. White, 84, of Kearny, Nebraska, and formerly of Dyersville, Iowa, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Services for Vernon were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev, Joe Hannappel officiating. The family greeted friends on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home where a Wake service was held at 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, with Rev. John O’Connor officiating. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m.at the Funeral Home. Burial will be held in St. Boniface Cemetery in New Vienna, Iowa, with Full military honors afforded by the Dyersville American Legion Post #137. Vernon was born January 19, 1929 in Farley, Iowa, son of Bernard and Leona (Kirsch) White. He attended the Farley Elementary school and was a graduate of Xavier High School in Dyersville, IA. In 1951 Vernon entered the U.S. Army and he received his honorable discharge in 1953. On May 11, 1962 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou (Wessels) Rahe at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, IA. Vernon was employed by General Telephone Electric with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #2722, Dyersville American Legion Post #137 the VFW Post #759 and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Vernon loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and his time at the cabin at Harlan County Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou White of Kearney, NE; five sons, Patrick (Teri Jo) Rahe, Paul (Kimberly) Rahe, Daniel White, David (Cheryl) White and Steven (Sharon) White all of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Andrew (Mandy) Rahe of Kearney, NE, Michelle (Corey) Friedrich of Aurora, SD, Alex (Melissa) Rahe of Omaha, NE, Tori (Shawn)_ Hatcher of Marysville, WA, Jacob, Colton, and Bailee White of Kearney, N E, Dane (Kara) Johnson of Minatare, NE, Josh Johnson USMC stations overseas, Cody (Katie) Sparks of Lincoln, NE, Ryan sparks of Kearney, NE, Ross Sparks of Lincoln, NE, Trevor Sparks U.S. Navy of San Diego; great grandchildren, Shelby, Cale, Krason, Cannon, Coy, Hayden, and Logan; one brother, Allan (Dee) White of Guttenberg, IA, and two sisters, Ethel Jacque of Dyersville, IA and Gloria Marolf of Farley, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Anna Wessels; an infant daughter, Mary White; brothers-in-law, Ralph Marolf and Richard “Dick” Jacque; and a great grandson, Blake Rahe.
