Manton F. “Monnie” Marcuson, age 89 of Elwood, passed away on May 6, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. His beloved wife, Elsie F. Marcuson, age 89 of Elwood, also passed away just hours later on May 7, 2013 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1944, and they are now united in Heaven forever.
Monnie was born on January 25, 1924 in Kenyon, MN, the son of Joseph S. and Etta (Gunhus) Marcuson. He was a graduate of Kenyon High School, and later served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Monnie was a local and regional salesman for the Birkmeier Monument Company and formerly Delphos Granite Company for over 53 years, and retired in 2004.
Elsie was born on January 28, 1924 in Glenville, MN, the daughter of Ben and Florence (Meader) Frederickson. She was a graduate of Albert-Lea High School. Elsie was a homemaker and was self-employed as a seamstress for many years in Elwood. She truly loved sewing, making clothes, and making alterations for many people in the community.
Monnie and Elsie were both devoted members of the Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood. They loved spending time not only with one another, but especially with their children and grandchildren. Monnie was a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368, and was known for being a sports enthusiast. Elsie was formerly active in the Tri-Kappa Sorority Associates. Both of them will be greatly missed by their family and friends.
Their family includes 2 children, Leslie (Wife Kay) Marcuson and Jeffrey (wife Kathy) Marcuson all of Elwood; 3 grandchildren, Greg (wife Christina) Marcuson of Noblesville, Jason (wife Jen) Marcuson of Fishers, and Sarah (husband Greg) Reimmuth of Fishers; and 7 great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by 2 siblings, Beverly Phillips and Bennie Frederickson both of Albert Lea, MN.
Monnie was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Spurgeon Marcuson and Joel Marcuson; and a sister, Leona Abel. Elsie was also preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Delmar Frederickson, Bob Frederickson, and Jerry Frederickson.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 6 PM on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Private funeral services will be conducted with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating, and burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Community Parkview Care Center for the exceptional care they provided for their parents.
