Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11 am at the Lovely Hill Baptist Church, 639 Hesseman Avenue, Holly Hill, South Carolina, with the Reverend W. J. Frierson, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Branch Cemetery.
For His purposes, God reached into His garden of life and called James Anson Morant home to rest in May of 2013. He was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on December 16, 1937, son of the late Mr. Freddie Morant and Mrs. Ashail Johnson Morant. His siblings, Freddie, Jr., and Johnnie Lee Morant preceded him in his call come.
"James Arthur," as he was affectionately known, attended South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina where he studied Liberal Arts. Following this, he served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965. His occupational title was Erecting Machinist. He was responsible for the intricate knowledge and building of strategic instruments, something which he was extremely proud to have the capacity to do.
On January 19, 1959, he was married to former Delores Green. From this union, came two sons: Harry James and Roderick Anthony.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Naval Service, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Washington, District of Columbia, as the Building Maintenance Engineer Supervisor. He retired in 1999.
He moved back home and temporarily resided in Orangeburg before finally settling in Vance, South Carolina. He re-connected with Lovely Baptist Church where he served faithfully, he lived by his motto for success: "Never Give Up."
He leaves to mourn his passing: one sister, Sallie M. Sweat; two sons: Harry James and Roderick Anthony; one daughter: Valarie Jean Willoughby; three grandchildren: Danielle Morant (Harry James), Jonathan Morant (Roderick Anthony) and Gabriel Willoughby (Valarie Jean); one great grandson: Keion Tomlin (Danielle); one niece, Donna Sweat; three nephews: Gerald Sweat, Donnell Morant, and Marcus Morant; and a host of relatives and friends.
