U.S. Veteran

Curtis E. Barnes, age 61 of New Marshfield died Friday afternoon, May 3, 2013, at his home.

Born July 29, 1951 in Athens, he was the son of the late Lloyd L. & Mary Glass Barnes.

A graduate of Ames-Bern High School, he retired in 1995 from Athens County Jobs & Family Services as an Investigator. He was a member of The Plains VFW Post 7174 and DAV Chapter 37, Athens. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and retired E-5 U.S. Army with 13 years of military service.

Curtis enjoyed hunting, fishing, auctions and antiques. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye sports fan.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 27 years, Paula Minear Barnes; three sons; five grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers.

A private family service will be held Monday at 12:30 pm at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. James Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville. Private family visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Combined Color Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Plains VFW Post 7174, 12 Pine St., The Plains, Ohio 45780.
