Willis Gaddist

Funeral services will be held on, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 12:00 noon, at the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, Old Gilliard Road, Ridgeville, South Carolina, with the Reverend J.P. Harrison, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shuler Cemetery.

Mr. Willis Gaddist was born on February 6, 1934 in Ridgeville, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Mr. Chris and Earlene Capers Gaddist. He departed this life on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at his residence.

Willis grew up in the Pringletown Community, and was converted at an early age and became a member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church. He served as an usher for many years.

After his retirement from the Salisbury Brickyard, Willis worked many years for Dorchester District Two at Summerville High School. He was known throughout the community for always being willing to help others by giving support or a helping hand. Willis was a hard worker and always took care of his family and neighbors. He had a great love for farming and gardening. In his leisure time, Willis enjoyed fishing and going to see a wrestling match.

He was joined in Holy Wedlock to the late Mary Lee Green Gaddist in December, 1958. To this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Willie James.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three sons, Clement (Marlene) Gaddist, of Summeriville, SC, Riley (Robin) Gaddist and Ron (Joan) Gaddist, both of Ridgeville, SC; three sisters, Annifeen Williams, of Ridgeville, SC, Lillie Jefferson, of Charleston, SC and Lois Pringle, of Goose Creek, SC; a devoted mother-in-law, Emma Green, Mt. Vernon, NY; four brothers-in-law, George Williams, of Ridgeville, SC, Howard Jefferson, of Charleston, SC, Jesse Green, of Mt. Vernon, NY, Henry Glover, of NY; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Green, of Mt. Vernon, NY and Leatha Gaddist, of Long Island, NY; ten grandchildren, Clinton and Sheena Gaddist, Taniece Patterson, Monifa, Mary and Christopher Gaddist, all of Ridgeville, SC, Aaron Gaddist, of Greenville, SC, Khadijah Gaddist, of Philadelphia, PA, Lamar and Joan Hamilton, of New York; five great grandchildren, Zaiden, Edijesha, Kendall, Kamari and Kamarria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence, 1139 Old Gilliard Road, Ridgeville, SC and at the funeral home.
