Lutz, FL - Walter "Skeeter" Bowman, 71, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, in Tampa, Florida. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, April 26, 2013, in Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 S. Camellia Blvd. in Fort Valley, with Rev. Ed McQueen officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Rooks Funeral Home, 213 West Church St. in Fort Valley. Walter was born on July 16, 1941, in Fort Valley, to the late E. W. Bowman, Jr., and Geraldine Crawford Bowman, both of Fort Valley. He was a 1959 graduate of Fort Valley High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1963. Walter then graduated from Vanderbilt Law School where he was a member of the Law Review. He was an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in both Atlanta and Tampa for many years. Walter was an interesting conversationalist and an expert historian who was always ready to discuss politics, current events, or economics. He greatly enjoyed his tenure on the debate team at the University of Georgia. He was a kind and gentle person who always put others at ease. During his retirement years, Walter cherished spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bowman; his daughter, Blair Bowman, both of the home; his sister, Jill Bowman Danneman and her husband, Jeffrey Danneman, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
