Elroy W. Schumacher

Elroy W. Schumacher, 91, of Buckley died at 2:04 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley with Rev. Daniel A. Olson officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Buckley.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 306 E Lincoln Street, Buckley and at the church Thursday one hour before the service.

Mr. Schumacher was born November 18, 1921 in rural Onarga the son of Carl and Bertha Meyer Schumacher. He married Thelma Nadine Reddish September 2, 1943 in Buckley.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine; three sons, Gaylain Schumacher of Palatka, FL, Gordon (Brenda) Schumacher of North Judson, IN, Wayne (Judy K.) Schumacher of Mattoon; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd (Patsy) Schumacher of Decatur, Roger (Donna) Schumacher of Buckley and a daughter-in-law, Pam Schumacher of Mounds View, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Garry; two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Schumacher was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley, the Iroquois County Farm Bureau, the Lutheran Layman’s League and Aid Associations for Lutherans. He served on the St. John’s Cemetery Committee and was a St. John’s Lutheran School board member. He also helped build the St. John’s Lutheran School building.

Elroy was a lifelong farmer; he was a farmer thorough-and-through and always made time for his grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Building a Future in Christ or Christ Lutheran High School.
