Clement H. Stecklein, 83, of 700 Maquoketa Drive SE, Cascade, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, due to complication of Parkinson’s disease.
Friends and relatives of Clem may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Services for Clem will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke Presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Clem was born July 1, 1929 in Sherrill, Iowa, son of Edmund and Martina (Kurt) Stecklein. He received his education at the former St. Mary’s School in Cascade, Iowa. On May 22, 1954 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jaeger at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa.
Clem farmed for 40 years with his brother Rollie. He served as the Whitewater Township clerk for 26 years.
He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play ball.
Clem was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. His dry humor and wit amused everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; his children, Dan (Karyn) Stecklein of Centennial, CO, Deborah (Marvin) Kleitsch of Monticello, IA, Diane (Dennis) Flannagan of Hopkinton, IA, Donna Yarolem, Dale (Sandy) Stecklein and Dennis (Jennie) Stecklein all of Cascade, IA; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren’ brothers and sisters, Rollie (Theresa) Stecklein of Cascade, IA, Marina Lehmann of Dubuque, IA, Lloyd (Marian) Stecklein of Bellevue, IA, Shirley (Gene) Hoffmann of Cascade, IA, Jane (Jim) Goblirsch of Sleepy Eye, MN, Judy (Alan) Westhoff of Portland, OR, and Ed (Shirley) Stecklein of Monticello, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Karen) Jaeger and, Sharon Jaeger of Dubuque, IA, Sandra Kuehn of Green Cover Springs, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed & Martina Stecklein; 2 sisters, Mary Eileen Stecklein, Madonna Otting-Tucker; brothers-in-law, Wilbert Otting, Elmer Lehmann, Lavern “Roger” Tucker,Rodney Kuehn and David Jaeger.; father and mother-in-law. Clarence “Chop” & Alice Jaeger.
A Clem Stecklein memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kristina, and all the staff of Shady Rest Care Center for their wonderful care and compassion, the staff of Finley Hospital, Fr. Douglas Loecke, Deacon Steve Strang, Jean Conrad, Fr. Vorwald and the Eucharistic Ministers who brought communion to the home.
