Harriet A. Dorsey

Harriet A. Dorsey, 92, of Paxton died at 5:43 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells Street, Paxton with Father Jose Kadukunnel officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Rural, Penfield.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton.

Harriet was born March 6, 1921 in rural Gifford, a daughter of Roy L. Siddens and Ida M. Johnson Siddens. She was married to John H. Dorsey on September 6, 1940, at Holy Cross Church, Champaign. He died May 14, 2002. They were married 62 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Sarita (Kenneth) Pankau of Champaign; three sons, John W. (Roxanne) Dorsey of Milwaukee, WI, Michael (Joan) Dorsey of Fairbury and James Dorsey of Champaign; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one sister, Shirley Cler of Gifford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willis and Ronald Siddens and two sisters, Helen Walston and Louise Tierney.

Harriet graduated from Rantoul High School in 1939. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Everyone loved her pies and candies. Her hobbies included reading, especially mysteries, quilting and handwork. She was employed at the Illinois Knights Templar Home for several years and also worked in food service in the Paxton school system. She also did volunteer work for her church and nursing homes.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paxton and the CCW. Memorials may be made to her church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
