Norbert P. Vosters, 93, of Freedom, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. He was born on July 2, 1919, son of the late Martin and Anna (DeGroot) Vosters. On May 2, 1946, Norb was united in marriage to Marian Spierings and they shared 66 wonderful years together. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII, and has since been a long time member of Freedom’s VFW Post #7692 and the Jacob Coppus American Legion, Post #258, Little Chute. Norb participated in over 250 military funerals as a member of the firing squad. He ran his family farm in Freedom for 35 years and was an usher at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church for over 40 years. Norb spent a lot of time watching high school wrestling matches, playing card games, and teasing his grandchildren. He had a sweet tooth that he passed on to his children as well. Norb was a very loving husband, father, and grandpa. He loved his family and was always involved in their lives. Christmas was especially his favorite family gathering.
Norb is survived by his loving wife, Marian; his 10 children: Jean (Wayne) Nackers, Dennis (Vicky) Vosters, Joyce (Mike) Evers, Dave “Fuzzy” (Carol) Vosters, Duane “Bert” (Lori) Vosters, Julie (Dave) Van Schyndel, Darrel (Carol) Vosters, Dean (Valerie) Vosters, Dick (Jill) Vosters, Don (Molly) Vosters; 30 grandchildren: Jill (Joel) Hinkens, Jodi (Jeremy) Olmsted, Michael (Yvette) Nackers, Kristi (Craig) Krieski, Jamie (Michelle) Vosters, Jeremy (Terra) Vosters, Joey (Sarah) Vosters, Nikki (John) Bell, Tammy (Nate) Weyenberg, Brett (Cassidy) Evers, Jesse (Fiancé Becky Casey) Vosters, Dana (Jason) Wilkinson, Ryan Vosters, Kirk, Kelsey and Kendall Vosters, Tyler Van Schyndel, Danielle (Chad) Schuh, Brooke (Fiancé Travis Hoffman) Van Schyndel, Nick, Katie (Fiancé Lucas Jadin), Luke, Matt and Jacob Vosters, Samantha, Adam and Leah Vosters, Ellie, Evan and Grant Vosters; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers: Gilbert (Isabelle), Arthur and Simon Vosters; a sister, Theresa (Jim) Spierings; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeanette Vosters, Marge Holcomb, Helen Le Noble, Betty (Tony) Hietpas, Donna (Jim) Maldwin; and many other nieces, nephews, special family members and friends.
Norb was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, John and Jean Spierings; sisters: Liz (Norb) Becker and Agnes (Gordy) VanDeHey; brothers: Sylvester, Andrew, Wilfred and Ernest Vosters; sisters-in-law: Jane Vosters, Calixta Vosters, Eunice Vosters, Arlene Vosters, Dorothy Rohan, Evelyn Spierings and Evelyn Welhouse; brothers-in-law: Norb Becker, Gordy VanDeHey, John Spierings, John Welhouse, Norbert Le Noble and Stan Holcomb.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Full military honors will be performed by Freedom VFW Post #7692 and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will take place on Saturday at the VERKUILEN FUNERAL HOME, 101 Canal St., Little Chute, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Old Glory Honor Flight would be appreciated.
