Ruth H. Jantzer

PAWLING - Ruth H. Jantzer, 87, died April 15, 2013 at Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born in Danbury Hospital on December 13, 1925 the daughter of Fred and Marianna (Osborn) Haynes. On April 5, 1953, Ruth married Edward J. Jantzer, who predeceased her on October 23, 1998.

She was a lifelong resident of Pawling, and her ancestors dated back to the early 1700's in Pawling. Her great-grandfather, Richard H. Haynes, donated the land for Pawling Cemetery, and at one time owned the land where Trinity-Pawling School and the High and Junior High schools are now located. Ruth was a graduate of Pawling High School Class of 1944 and later attended Krissler Business Institute. She was a secretary at the Daniels Agency in Pawling for 20 years retiring in 1972. Ruth was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and had been on the Vestry, and was involved in many facets of the church. She had been professionally trained as a singer in New York City and she shared this talent with the church choir for many years. Throughout the years, Ruth loved to share a good bourbon and jokes with her friends and family.

Ruth is survived by her nephew, Paul R. Haynes (Karen) of Hopewell Junction, and nieces, Cynthia Haynes Smith (Michael) of Orlando, FL, Martha Haynes Treat (John) of Auburn, IN, and Susan Haynes McGill (Michael) of Rochester Hills, MI, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends. Ruth’s two brothers, Richard O. Haynes and Herbert S. Haynes both predeceased her.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 22 Coulter Avenue, Pawling, NY with The Reverend John P. Gedrick, III, officiating, who is also Chaplain of Trinity-Pawling School. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot in the Pawling Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to some of her favorite charities: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Pawling Library or Pawling Historical Society. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Horn & Thomes, Inc.,
