Mary Ann Craig

Mary A. Craig, 65, of Clayton, DE passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

She was a 16 year survivor of breast cancer until 2009 when her cancer returned just four months before her retirement of 40 years at Johnson Controls Incorporated (JCI). While working at Globe Union, now JCI, she was the first female employee to hold a position on the production floor.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was always giving and caring for others. Mary loved unconditionally and was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest pride and joy was spending as much time as possible with her three loving and very caring grandsons. She also enjoyed baseball, cooking and gardening and was a devoted member of The Northeast Christian Church of Middletown.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Gilmore J. Reed Sr.; mother, Sarah (Rash) Smith; brothers, Richard H. Reed and Gilmore J. Reed, Jr. and sister, Clara Reed.

She is survived by two daughters, Denise Craig-Reinike and her husband, Kevin and Sherry A. Reed and her husband, Rydell; three grandsons, Thomas W. Glanding, Travis J. Glanding and Nicholas A. Reed all of Middletown; brother, Paul Reed and his wife, Marlyn of Smyrna; three sisters, Carolyn Akin and her husband, Harry of Dover, Gilda Foraker and her husband, Myrle of TX and Sarah Moody of Smyrna and many loving nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many longtime friends.

Mary’s character of endurance was brought forth and her focus remained steadfast and strong; knowing that her appointed time had come; that her Lord was calling her home.

Funeral services will be held noon on Friday, April 5 at Townsend Freewill Baptist Church, 4519 S. DuPont Parkway, Townsend, DE where friends may visit with her family one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northeast Christian Church, PO Box 416, Middletown, DE 19709-0416 or to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
