Anthony Wayne Balazic
Former Bremerton resident Tony Balazic, 91,died March 25, 2013, at Franke Tobey Jones Health Care in Tacoma.He was born November 29, 1921, in Big Sandy, Montana, the 9th child of Martin Frank Balazic and Marija Frasz, immigrants from an ethnic Slovene community living in Hungary.
Tony served with the Army Combat Engineers from 1943 to 1946 in England, France and Germany. He retired as Assistant Chief in 1973 following 30 years of service with the Bremerton Fire Department. He was a life long member of BPOE 1181 and a past member of Firefighters local #437, Washington State Council of fire fighters and the Bremerton Central Lions and Toastmasters. He also served for 17 years on the fire fighters pension board.
All who knew Tony often spoke of his courage in surviving 25 years of Parkinson dsease, his kindness to others, his fun sense of humor, and his leadership amd devotion to his family and friends,His 3 daughters were so lucky to have him at the helm and the staff and residents of Franke Tobey Jones(his home for the past 10 years)always commented how much they loved him for all these qualities as well.
Tony and Audre Mae Freeman were married on September 30th , 1942. Mother passed away away January 5,2003 only a few months after celebrating there 60th anniversary. Dad loved the out of doors so many summers were spent camping, fishing for salmon, clamming on ocean beaches, traveling to Montana to help with the wheat harvest, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona with other bird friends, and hiking in the Superstitions. He was a devoted Seahawk and Mariners fan, enjoyed WI bowling and a weekly trip to the "Emerald Queen"was, of course, his favorite outing.
Tony is survived by his 3 daughters, Mary Anne Fray, Linda Marie Huff(Sam huff)and Arlene Balazic (Barney Alanis),grandson ,Sam Huff(Tammy Huff)and their children Dylan and Sidney, and granddaughter Stacie Anne Hardison. He is also survived sister Margaret Balazic Grubb, age 94, brothers John Henry, age 101,and Joseph, age 83, sister in law Elsie Millikan and dozens of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2pm April 4, 2013 at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 6th Ave, Tacoma,WA 98403, private burial will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
