Stephen A. Cooper, age 88, of Athens, Ohio, passed away on March 26, 2013, after an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Cooper; three sons, Stephen and Clarice, Larry (and the late Bonnie), Edwin and Shelly; and one daughter, Roseanna; grandchildren, Todd and Bryan Cooper, Tony Cooper, Kelly Brown, Christina Hupp, Donald Kempton and Tammy Hunter; and many great-grandchildren.
Steve served with the United States Army as field artillery in the 97th Infantry Division. While serving in World War II, he earned the American Theatre Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern area Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday 1:00 pm at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
