Debra Lynn Shields Cline, age 60, of Athens passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, March 26, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She had courageously battled cancer for fifteen months.
She was born July 21, 1952 in Athens, the daughter of the late Lewis R. Shields and Clarice Shields and Stephen “Pap” Cooper of Athens.
She was a longtime employee of the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services. She enjoyed baking, candle making, helping others, and most of all spending time with her family.
Debra is survived by her husband, Paul Cline; five sons- Donald (Nana) Kempton of Okinawa, Japan, Cody (Camie) Rutter, Ryan Rutter, Derik (Jessica) Rutter all of Athens and Mike (Christina) Cline of Lancaster; twelve grandchildren- Kara, Kimberly, Sydney, Ayaka, Kyle, Daphne, Karli, Marlee, Riley, Carter, Sophie and Lilly; her siblings- Sharon Ulsenheimer of Burton, Bernie Williams of Jacksonville, and Barry (Cathy) Shields of Millfield; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her father she is preceded in death by a brother, Danny Shields and a nephew, Barry “Little Bear” Shields.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday 1:00 pm at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor Bob Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call Friday 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
