Kathryn Utterback Dain

Kathryn Utterback Dain of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday afternoon at Williamsburg Nursing Home. She was 109.

She was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sunshine Chorus. She also served as a Gold Star Mother. She attended Crawfordsville schools and went to work at the telephone office, garment factory, Montgomery Ward and R. R. Donnelley.

Born February 23, 1904 in Waynetown, she was the daughter of William Walden and Mary Brown Walden. She married Clayton Utterback on October 18, 1922 and they had four children. He passed away on March 20, 1964. She married Joe Dain January 16, 1966 and he passed away December 7, 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Prince of Crawfordsville, several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Her son, Robert C. Utterback, was killed serving in World War II on March 19, 1945, her other son, David Utterback, died on December 7, 1986 and her daughter, Marjorie Douglas Leonard, passed away February 16, 1996. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters, one great-grandchild, step-children, Dorothy Thompson and Robert Dain, her parents and step-father, Elijah Bratton.

Pastors Jim Ranard, Mike Wren and Isaac Zull will officiate a service Saturday at 11:30AM in Burkhart Funeral Home with visitation two hours prior. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
