Betsy (Elizabeth Ann) Abernathy, a longtime resident of Homewood, Illinois, joined her mother, Betty Frank, after a struggle with cancer at Munster Community Hospital.
Born in 1953 in Springfield, Illinois, she graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School, and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University. An Army veteran, with service at Walter Reed Hospital, Betsy worked as a Lamaze teacher, Staff Nurse, and Educator before becoming the Systems and Regulatory Quality Manager at Munster Community Hospital.
A nurse, veteran, and seasoned shopper, Betsy devoted her life to the care and joy of others with compassion and love, always treating friends and patients as family.
She will be missed by her colleagues, friends, and family, and is survived by her son Daniel Abernathy, father Alvin Frank, sisters Vera Coniglio, Margaret Novak, Tricia Perry, brother Daniel Frank and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the father, Alvin Frank, and family, on Thursday, March 28th from 1-3pm at Ryan Funeral Home, 18022 Dixie Hwy, 708-798-0331.
A memorial celebration and sharing of memories will take place on Friday, March 29th, from 5-8 pm, with services commencing at 6p at the Center Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, 46321.
