CHICOPEE – James B. Bunyan, 74, a retired Master Millwright Mechanic, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 with his family at his side. Jim was born in Holyoke on August 12, 1938, the son of the late Albert and Olive (Dunbar) Bunyan and has lived in Chicopee for most of his life. He proudly served his country with a tour of duty for 4 years in the U. S. Navy with the Airborne Early Warning Squadron being discharged on August 11, 1959. In March of 1960, Jim enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and served another four years until his discharge on January 14, 1964. In civilian life, he was employed by Rock-Tenn Packaging Co. in Chicopee, formerly Waldorf Corp. and Champion Packaging until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Buffalo Club in Chicopee. Jim’s wife, Kathleen E. (Kennedy) Bunyan, passed away on December 18, 1996. He is survived by 3 sons, Albert Bunyan of Washington State, Michael T. Bunyan and his wife Marissa of Chicopee and Kevin G. Bunyan and his wife Tina of Chicopee, a daughter, Natalie Colberg and her husband Kevin of Ludlow with whom Jim has made his home since 2006, his twin brother, Jon Bunyan and his wife Barbara of South Hadley and Eleanor Johnson and her husband William in Florida and 4 grandchildren, Kevin & Zachary Bunyan and Kaycie & Taylor Colberg. Besides his parents and his wife, Jim was also predeceased by a brother, Richard Bunyan and a sister, Marjorie Beaudoin. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013, beginning at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, 319 Broadway, Chicopee at 10. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
