Rye – Charles E. Fernald, 85, of Rye, died, Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Webster At Rye.
He was born on November 9, 1927 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a son of George G. and Mildred L. (Seavey) Fernald.
Charles attended Schools in Portsmouth and he served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, Charles was in the civil service at Pease Air Force Base and was also employed as a Police Officer in the town of Rye.
He was a member of the Congregational Church of Rye; a 50 year member of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 56 F & AM in Portsmouth, member of the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion in Portsmouth, and the Emerson Hovey Post No. 168, VFW in Portsmouth. Charles was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Kalenian) Fernald and sister, Pauline Quirk.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. Fernald and his wife, Georgette of Sanford; brother-in-law, Martin S. Quirk of Rye; and several nieces and nephews.
At Charles’ request there will be no funeral services. The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
