Joseph P. Murtha, Sr.

Joseph P. Murtha, Sr., age 87, of Levittown, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Chandler Hall, Newtown.

Born in Philadelphia, Joseph was a Levittown resident for the past 56 years, and a member of Queen of the Universe Parish.

Until his retirement at age 65, Joseph was employed in auto parts sales for over 40 years, some of which were Auto Lite Electric, Motocraft, Mopar and Dupont Paint.

He served in the US Army during World War II earning the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Bronze Star. He was a member of John Billington VFW Post 6495 and American Legion Post 960.

Joseph enjoyed cooking with his late wife and gardening. He also enjoyed classcial music and painting his home.

Beloved husband of 54 years to the late Josephine M. (Arona) Murtha, Joseph is the loving father of Joseph P. Murtha, Jr. and Michael A. Murtha and his wife Judith of Levittown. He will also be sadly missed by his granddaughters Jessica (Dwight), Lauren, and Courtney; his great grandsons, Cassidy and Chase Gregory; his brother Tom Murtha (Mary Anne) and sisters, Helen Reichel, Rose Ernest, Betty, Dolores Metzger and sister-in-law, Rose Masci. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and William and sister, Anna Mae.

Family and friends are invited to call Saturday, from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA . Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rite of Committal immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
