George Willis Etter, Jr. died Friday, March 15th, 2013, at his home in Lansing. He was born in Alton, IL on November 20th, 1949 to the late George W. and Jeanne (Reig) Etter. The family moved to Dearborn, MI, where George graduated from Edsel Ford HS. George attended Henry Ford CC and Michigan State University, where he received a B.S. in Business Administration. George lived in Lansing his entire adult life. When not working, he enjoyed reading history and political science, vacationing at Arbutus Beach on Otsego Lake, and following Spartan football, basketball and hockey. George worshipped at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church. He served as an Elder, a Trustee, and as its treasurer. George is survived by two sisters and one brother, and their spouses: Janet E. and Lawrence E. Barker of Bettendorf, IA; Pat and Bob Hornick of Grand Rapids; and Joseph and Mary J. Etter of South Windsor, CT. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his feline friend, Rosie O’Grady. George was a special person, a gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all. His family thanks the many volunteers from his church and from the American Cancer Society, who gave George invaluable assistance and comfort during his illness. Also, the staff of Edgewood Retirement Center and of Great Lakes Hospice provided loving and compassionate care to George, for which we are most grateful.
