Lee, Catherine Ruth (Day) (Age 93) of Marbury, Maryland.
Catherine Ruth Lee was born on September 8, 1919 in Pisgah, Maryland and departed this life on March 13, 2013 at the Genesis Healthcare in Waldorf, Maryland.
Catherine, affectionately known as “Sis” and “Nannan” was born to the late Joseph W. and Maggie Day. She was educated in the public schools of Charles County. Catherine joined Alexandria Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Alexandria Chapel for over fifty years and remained a faithful active member as long as her health allowed.
Catherine was employed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center formerly known as the Naval Powder Plant for several years. She also did domestic work for a number of years before deciding to devote her full attention to caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking and fed all who entered her home. She also enjoyed sewing and just sitting on her porch enjoying her family. She was a mother to many of the neighborhood children. Being the oldest daughter, she helped raise her siblings after her mother’s death.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; father and mother, Joseph and Maggie; four brothers, Bernard, her twin brother Wilson, Edward and Louis Day; two sisters, Arlene and Veronica.
She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, William “Mickey” (Margie) Day; George (Catherine) Day, and Johnny Lee; two daughters, Louise (James) Jones and Mary Short; 31 grandchildren including loving and devoted grandson, Shawn; 74 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Emma Day; a host of loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 5pm to 7pm, Prayer Service, 6:30pm, Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in the Chapel of THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A. and on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 10am until time of Service, 11am. Interment, Alexandria Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rison, Maryland.
