Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw
Darlene Mae Dickerson, age 81, of Warsaw, went to meet her Savior on March 8, 2013, at the Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 19, 1931, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Rachel Smith. They moved back to Fristoe, Missouri in 1933, where Darlene went eight grades to Fristoe and graduated from Warsaw High School.
She was married to Phillip Dickerson on September 8, 1950. They moved to Kansas City where she worked at National Bellas Hess for several years and Phil was a fireman at North Kansas City. After losing two babies, Peggy Lou and John Phillip, they adopted their precious daughter Tammy Ann in 1961, when she was 14 months old. Oh what a proud Mom & Dad, it was a great day!
They moved back to Fristoe in 1965, and operated the Fristoe Café & Service Station. Darlene closed the café part and started working for the Warsaw R-9 School District as a substitute until she got on full time, working until she retired in 2009, at the age of 77. She did many banquets and enjoyed it tremendously.
She then went up to help at the Senior Center and even baked pies and took there. They moved from the farm into Warsaw in July of 2000 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 9, 2000. Darlene loved her three grandsons, Levi, Jesse and Josh, the great grandchildren, Hayden and Prestyn. She loved to cook, bake and could grow violets in any room and window. Darlene accepted Jesus as a young girl and stayed active at New Home Baptist Church where she had been a member since 1965 when they moved back down from Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Rachel Smith, husband Phillip Dickerson, two babies, John Phillip and Peggy Lou, a sister, Sybil Smith Hopper, a brother Everett “E.T.” Smith and a mother-in-law Katie Dickerson Templeton.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Tammy Barnes, and her husband Mike, three grandsons; Levi, Jesse and Josh and two precious great grandchildren, Hayden and Prestyn Dickerson, a granddaughter-in-law Brianna, two step-granddaughters, Mandi and Sandra Barnes and two step-great grandchildren; Kingston and Kolby, three sisters, Jennie Balke, Leta Rogers and Bonnie Henderson, one brother Lee Smith, one sister-in-law Lila Davis Smith, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
