Donald Lee Cook, 76, of Macon, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Samaritan Memorial Hospital in Macon. Donald was born on January 25, 1937, in Clarence, MO, the son of Virgil and Florence (Farmer) Cook. He was united in marriage to Mary Janet Matkin on November 28, 1964, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon. Donald worked as an Industrial Arts Instructor at Macon R-1 High School and later for NEMO and Associated Electric mines. After retiring from the mine, he worked as a seasonal worker for MoDot. He enjoyed horseback riding, woodworking, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Janet Cook of Macon, four daughters, Renee DeWeese and her husband Kurt of Macon, Juanita Waller and her husband Daniel of Macon, Catherine Cook and her husband Dimitri Karkar of Ramallah, Palestine, and Suzanne Hakimipour and her husband Andrew of Orlando, FL, nine grandchildren, Aaron and Kaitlyn DeWeese, Mary and Nash Waller, Grace, Najla, and Michel Karkar, and Jason and Alex Hakimipour, one brother, Kenneth Cook and his wife Barbara of Oshkosh, WI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Rev. Julie King officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association.
