Esther Merle Flickinger, 93, Bicknell, passed away Sunday March 10, 2013 at her home surrounded by her nine children. Esther was born January 10, 1920 in Terre Haute, the daughter of Walter Ross and Etha (Willy) Parsons. She married Claude D. “Whitey” Flickinger on June 27, 1938. Esther became a member of the Salvation Army when the family moved to Bicknell. Later she and her husband attended the Wesleyan Church until her husband passes away. She then became a member of the Nazarene Church where she holds the honor of being the oldest member. Esther had many interests, she loved to sing and sang in the church choir, the Labor Day Community Choir, and went to various gospel sings with friends and family whenever she got the chance. She enjoyed seeing her friends, playing cards, and quilting at the senior center every week. She crocheted, made ceramic items for friends and family, baked cakes and pies whenever donations were needed and for her family and friends, and went to bingo whenever she could. Esther is survived by her nine children, sons Claude D. “Bud” Flickinger Jr., Jon G. Flickinger and his wife Brenda, Robert A. Flickinger, William R. Flickinger, Tommy L. Flickinger and his wife Jeanne, and Ernest C. Flickinger; daughters Claudia S. Flickinger and her husband Bob, Jean A. Flickinger, and Sheary K. Boldrey and her husband David; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, two daughters Sharon and Roseanne, and one sister, Henrietta Seniffe. The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 12, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bicknell Nazarene Church. A second visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM also at the church with funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jon McKinnon and Pastor Ralph Clark officiating and burial following at Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.
