Mrs. I.C. Boyd peacefully passed away at a local hospital in San Diego. Viewing will be Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mortuary. Funeral Service will be Friday, March 15, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church located at 1962 Euclid Avenue; San Diego, CA 92105. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

I.C. Boyd’s life was filled with love and devotion to her family, church and friends. Affectionately known as “Sweet”, she was born in Helena, Arkansas on May 26, 1926. Her parents, John Smith and Clara Johnson-Smith, preceded her in death.

I.C. completed her formal education at Elisa Miller High School. She accepted Christ at an early age under the Pastorage of the late Reverend P. G. Clayborne, at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church.

On January 13, 1946, I.C. united in holy matrimony to the late Herbert Lee Boyd. To this union eight children were born. Herbert Lee Jr., Joyce Sharee, Samuel Bernard and Betty Jean preceded her in death.

In 1956, I.C. moved with her family to San Diego, California. In 1958, she and the family united with Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles H. Hampton. She remained a faithful member throughout her life until she became ill. I.C. was devoted to Christ, she loved the church and her dedication to Bethel Baptist Church spanned over sixty years.

For many years, she was employed at Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she dedicated years of excellent service and retired in 1990.

I.C. Boyd went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2013. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be lovingly missed by all. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Vernon Lee (wife Lisa), Victor Ray (wife Bernell) all of San Diego, CA, Mary Virginia (husband Willie) of Hayward, CA and Peggie (husband Steve) of Toledo, WA; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
