Roy “Dee” Kennedy was born to Clinton and Mable Kennedy in Scotsguard, Saskatchewan on August 5, 1924 and passed away February 28, 2013 at the age of 88.
He is preceded in death by 8 siblings (Evelyn, Ruth, Edna, Faye, Fern, Bill, Earl and Glen), great-granddaughter Jasmine Ball and survived by his brother Edward Floyd Kennedy of Tonasket, WA.
Dee is lovingly remembered by son Michael of Tacoma, WA, daughter Patty (Rich) Lindstrom of Olympia, WA, daughter Deanne (Chris) Caron, and daughter Heidi of Tacoma, WA, grandchildren Cindy, Peter, Meagan, Michelle, Christine, Erin, Samantha and Carter, five great-grandchildren, former wife and friend Dorothy R. Loucks, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
After attending Ogema High School, Dee moved to Tacoma WA in 1942. In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Reno from 1943-1946. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked in the automotive retail business for 35 years. After his retirement, he started and maintained a small lawn maintenance business and stayed active and involved in Tacoma Elks Club, Shriners, World War II Veterans activities and reunions, Central Lutheran Church, and, in later years, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Dee enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, walking his beloved dog Abbie, fishing, watching and attending sporting events and supporting the Seahawks.
His family gives special thanks to the caring staff and friends at Bridgeport Place Assisted Living where he spent the last 6 years of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 6th Ave., Tacoma, 98403, 253-272-1414.
