James Edward Griffin, 85, of Henderson, died at 12:04 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a lifetime member of Immanuel Baptist Temple, where he served as deacon. His love for cars inspired him to a lifetime career as a car salesman, manager, and consultant. He worked for Augubrite Auto Sales, Don Mahurin Auto Sales, and Expressway Chevrolet, where he retired in 2008 at age 80. He loved the outdoors and working in his yard. He was also an avid bowler, where he played on the Echo Lanes Bowling Team.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mildred King Griffin, who died in 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Fran Griffin Miller and her husband David Miller, and Gayle Renee Griffin O’Nan and her husband David Y. O’Nan, all of Henderson; one sister, Joy Mitchell of Henderson; one brother, Jerry Griffin of Owensboro; and his two precious grandchildren whom he adored, Kristen Elizabeth O’Nan and Jacob Nathaniel O’Nan, both of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Temple. The Rev. Ken Gazaway will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, March 5, 2013, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Baptist Temple.
Pallbearers will be David Y. O’Nan, David Miller, Chad Griffin, Jacob O’Nan, Derrick Bulkley, and David Mitchell.
