John A. Donovan, Jr., 85, of Manchester, NH, died February 26, 2013, at Elliot Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, MA on January 10, 1928, he was the son of John A. and Mary (Reidy) Donovan, Sr. He resided in Manchester for the past thirty years.
He graduated from Cathedral High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stonehill College. He earned a masters degree from Clark University.
During the Korean War, he served with the United States Navy. Early in his career, he taught at Becker Junior College. Later, he worked at the Veterns Affairs Medical Center for many years.
He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Cathedral.
Family members include six sisters, Alice Owen of Steep Falls, ME, Helen Elliot of West Roxbury, MA, Rosemary Gagnon of Stoneham, MA, Patricia Cadegan of Merrimack, NH, Judith Nee of Norwood, MA, and Joyce Choate of Biloxi, MS; many nieces and nephews.
Services: There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 7th, 2013 at 10 AM, in the chapel of Saint Joseph Cathedral, Lowell Street, Manchester.
Urn burial will take place in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
