Stephanie Lane Carter was born on April 14, 1956, in Dos Palos, Ca. Stephanie was the 7th child of Troy and Mildred Carter, a local cotton farmer and teacher, who resided on Valeria Avenue in Dos Palos from 1938 until their deaths in 1986 and 1992, respectively. Stephanie had a wonderful life filled with love, fun, family and friends.
The Carter's rambling farm house was converted into a non-profit residence for 13 developmentally disabled adults in 1983 so that Stephanie could have a permanent home. She lived in that house for her whole life until her recent move to Merced for more nursing care.
Stephanie will long be remembered for her verve of life. She loved her family, friends, singing and dancing, parties, good food and pretty clothes. She participated in activities at the Kingsview Workshop in Los Banos and was very proud to be a Self Advocate of the CVRC Consumer Advisory Committee in Fresno for many years.
Stephanie is survived by 2 brothers, Jared Carter (Bonnie), Ukiah, CA, Jack Carter (Diana), Englewood, CO, and 2 sisters, Nana Carter Smith (Joel), La Canada, CA, and Elizabeth Carter Reid (Jim), Fresno, CA, and by her many nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud.
The Carter family would like to thank Elsa and Ron Snyder and family and all of the staff at the Agnes Whitson Home for the years of loving care they gave to Stephanie. The home will continue as a living memorial to Stephanie as well as to her parents, Troy and Mildred Carter. They would also like to thank the staff of The Lloyd's of Liberty Home (Columbia North) and Hind's Hospice Care for their warm and caring treatment of Stephanie's last few months.
