Joseph A. Governale, 82, a long-time resident of Pawling and recently of Fort Myers, FL, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in Pawling. Born in Manhattan on July 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert and Marie (Gardella) Governale. Joe served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He married Joan Bexley on May 24, 1959 and they moved to Pawling in 1964. Joe was an insurance salesman, and he later started his own business, Governale Insurance Agency in Pawling. Joe was an avid golfer and loved going to Las Vegas. Joe was a past member and past president of the Pawling Lions Club, a past member of the Pawling Council Knights of Columbus, and a past member and founder of the Pawling Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association. He was also the chairman of the Village of Pawling Zoning Board of Appeals during the 80’s. Survivors include his wife, Joan; two sons, Joseph R. Governale and his wife, Edna, and Thomas Governale and his wife, Maria, all of Pawling; two daughters, Lois Rimany and her husband, Robert, of Cape Coral, FL and Janice Maerling and her husband, Robert, of Pawling; ten grandchildren, Alicia Hauser, Meghan Maerling, Lauren Governale, Alexandra Rimany, Victoria Rimany, Robert M. Maerling, Joseph A. Governale, Angela Rimany, Juliet Governale, and Thomas Cole Governale; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Hauser and John Cinquemani. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling Thursday, February 28th from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 1st at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
