Joseph A. Maraski, 86, of Georgetown, passed away, Sunday, February 24, 2013 peacefully at River Street Manor, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his living family.
Joe was born in Laurel Run and attended Wilkes-Barre Township schools and served in the United States Army during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He retired from Conrail in 1988 and was a member of St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Parish, Ashley. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Wilkes-Barre Township until it's closing.
Mr. Maraski was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Bridget Maraski, infant daughter Beverly, son Robert Maraski, sisters, Mary Andrejewski and Katie Wiernusz.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret (Peggy) Collins; daughter, Barbara Turinski and her husband, Tom, Laurel Run; grandchildren, Martin and Bobby Maraski, Dorothy Cooper, Tom Jr., Joel, and Justin Turinski, nine great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Military funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 9:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Leo's Church, 33 Manhattan Street, Ashley.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
