Curtis Leland Chambers age 66 of Skiatook, OK, formerly of Lexington, OK passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa. Curtis was born on January 12, 1947 in Berkeley, CA. one of five children. His parents were Laverne Leland Chambers and Wynona Boyce Jenkins. Curtis grew up in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Schools. He later joined the U. S. Army and proudly served two years during the Vietnam War. He was recipient of a Purple Heart and was later honorably discharged on March 1, 1973. Throughout his life he worked and lived in various towns in Oklahoma and Texas working in retail sales. As a young boy he was one of the first carhops to use roller skates while working at Sonic. Years later he again worked for the Sonic Corp. as a company field representative. At the age of 46, he moved to Lexington and started working for Barrett Trailers located in Purcell. There he worked for nearly eight years before he had to retire because of his failing health. On December 29, 1994 Curtis married Rebecca Lynn Gardner in Gladewater, TX. They made their home in Lexington until 2011 at that time they moved to Skiatook to be close to their children. Curtis was an avid sports fan and especially an O. U. fan. He was a corvette car buff and enjoyed going for a drive with the top down. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by: Parents: L.L. and Wynona Chambers, Brother: Jerry Lee, Brother-in-law: Larry Newville, He is survived by: Wife: Becky Chambers of Skiatook, OK, Six children: Curtis L. Cobb, Tracy Cobb, Aaron Chambers, Danny Chambers, Cindra Gardner-Bobby, Robyn Richardson, Two brothers: Chris Chambers and wife Deloris of Moore, Dale Chambers of Purcell, Sister: Yevonne Newville of Lexington, 14 grandchildren, Also many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK.
