Leonard L. Burgess, 94, of Paxton passed away at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Sullivan Rehab in Sullivan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Pastor Terry Cooper officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Mr. Burgess was born December 30, 1918 at Orchardville, IL in Wayne County, the son of Glen and Gussie Miley Burgess. He attended rural schools in Wayne County. Leonard married Nola J. Pifer May 28, 1950 at Xenia, IL in Clay County. After their move to Paxton, he was employed by Belson Salvage Yard and for over 30 years was employed by the France Broom Company of Paxton. He served in the US Army during WWII (1945 -1949) and was a member of the American Legion Post of Flora, IL. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and working on his cars.
He is survived by his wife Nola and 4 sons, Ronnie (Kathy) Burgess of Covington, IN, Wesley Burgess of Flora, Leroy (Theresa) Burgess of Windsor, Larry (Betsy) Burgess of Windsor; 3 grandchildren Jeri Lynn Woolard and Brian Burgess both of Windsor, Aaron Burgess of Rantoul; 3 great-grandchildren Lee Kidler, Wesley Heaton, and Krystal Heaton, and 1 sister Marie Coyne of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Carol Elders, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 3 grandsons.
Memorials may be made to Sullivan Rehab and Healthcare Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
