The Funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Shuler-Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, 1235 Unity Road, Holly Hill, SC; The Reverend Terry Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the Dorchester Cemetery in Dorchester, SC.
William Esmond Butler, beloved son of Mrs. Sylvia Ruth White Butler and the late Willie B. Butler, was born on January 6, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. He departed into eternal life on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida, after an extended illness.
He grew up in Brooklyn and completed his secondary education at Eli Whitney High School. He continued his studies at DeVry Institute where he studied Engineering and Computer Science. He worked in many positions over the years including security officer and medical office assistant. In recent years, he made his home in Tampa, Florida. He was a member of New Millennium Community Church in Tampa and operated the sound system for the church until he became ill.
He was united in marriage to the former Ms. Edith Smothers who was his loving and devoted caregiver in final illness.
Bill or Billy, as we called him, was a great talker, a comic, a lover of music and animals. He thought the world of his three dogs - his babies. He reached out to his extended family and wanted to be around them as much as possible. He always remembered to say, "I love you."
He leaves loving memories with his devoted wife, Mrs. Edith S. Butler, of the home, a daughter, Ms. Octavia Jordan, of Brooklyn, NY; one son, Desmond Butler, of Brooklyn, NY, one stepson, Eric Smothers, of Brooklyn, NY, his mother, Mrs. Sylvia R. Butler, of Holly Hill, SC; two brothers, Timothy (Tikeenia) White, of Savannah, GA and Etholia Sweat, of Charleston, SC, two uncles; five aunts; father-in-law, Mr. Edward Chambers, of Plainsfield, NJ; sister-in-law, Rita Chambers; two brother-in-law, Larry Chambers and Phillip Chambers and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
