Joe Vargas, Jr, 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 peacefully in his home. He was born August 3, 1930 in Yorktown, Texas to the late Joe Vargas, Sr. and Guadalupe Salias Vargas. He was a Korean War Veteran and a heavy machine operator. Joe is survived by his wife Lucille Alice Ramos-Vargas; daughters Irma Jean De Los Rosa (Ernest) of Cameron and Valerie Aguirre of Florida; sons, Joe Vargas, III (Rosie) of Victoria, Gregory Lee Vargas of Victoria, Ray Allen Vargas (Janice) of Victoria, Gary Curtis Vargas (Bethany) of Victoria, Jimmy Ray Vargas of Victoria, Christopher Shawn Vargas of Victoria; 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and sister Rosa Gonzales of Yoakum. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his sister Mary Alice Villarreal, brother Pete Vargas, Sr., and sister Annie Gonzales. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 13 at 3pm with a prayer service at 7pm Artero Memorial Chapels. Visitation will resume on Thursday, February 14 from 9am-10am with a funeral service to follow at 10am at Artero Memorial Chapels. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of Calhoun County Combined Honor Guards will follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Vargas, Joe Vargas III, Jesse Vargas, Christopher Navarro, Seferino Vargas, and Seffereno Ybarra.
