Leonel Archuleta passed away peacefully on Friday February 8, 2013 at hospice in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on December 14, 1928 in Antonito, Colorado. He graduated high school from the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind in 1946, and was a printer by trade. He retired from the Washington Star newspaper and had a second career working for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC until he retired in 1993. At that time he and his wife moved to Pensacola, Florida and resided here for 18 years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois June Archuleta, son Casey Archuleta and grand daughter Patience Archuleta of Fredericksburg, Virginia, his brother Julio Archuleta from New Mexico, sister, Dora Jiron from Colorado, step daughter Patty Moers-Patterson and grandchildren Kristin and Forrest Moers, and the McDowell family of Pensacola, Florida. Leonel enjoyed being outdoors and had an appreciation for nature. He volunteered countless hours for national and local organizations that advocate for the rights of Deaf people. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pensacola Association of the Deaf. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe G & Polonita Jiron Archuleta. Memorial services will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 7433 Pine Forest Rd. Pensacola, Fl 32526. Visitation for friends is on Wednesday, February 13th from 6-8pm with services on Thursday, February 14th at 2:00pm.
