Jan J. Balch

GLENS FALLS --- Jan J. Balch, 58, passed away, February 9, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a short battle with cancer.

Born on August 3, 1954 he was the son of Earl and Kathryn Pregent.

He was employed at General Electric for several years.

Being a huge music enthusiast, Jan enjoyed building and playing guitars. As an artist, he enjoyed painting landscapes and abstract pieces of art. Jan was brilliant at computer programming and was a huge inspiration to his daughter Mari who credits Jan for motivating her to work for computer giants Microsoft and Apple. His son Brian enjoyed quality time building computers and playing video games with Jan.

Jan was predeceased by his parents Kathryn and Earl Pregent.

He is survived by his son Brian Balch of Glens Falls, his daughter Mari Balch and spouse Scott Holmes with Jan's beautiful 2 year old granddaughter Lily Holmes of Buffalo, NY; brothers and sisters Earl H. "Chip" Pregent and Carol Martin of Glens Falls, Joseph and Gina Balch of Queensbury, Virginia Breault and Jeff Mumblo of Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Friends may call upon the family Friday, February 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.

A funeral service will follow, Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates officiating.

Burial will follow at Glens Falls Cemetery, Bay Street.

The family would also like to send a very special thank you to the caring staff at Charles R. Wood Cancer Center, Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital.
