He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and mechanic during the Vietnam War. In 1966, after being stationed at Ft. He also worked at Springfield Ford as a transmission specialist, at Bobcat as a mechanic, and at Tidewater as a mechanic and shop manager. He loved working with his hands and would spend hours building and rebuilding transmissions until every part was perfect. He is survived by his wife, Gail; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Shawn Rempel, of Statesboro; a daughter, Amanda Rempel , of Savannah; one sister, Rosemarie Scott, of Long Island, NY; four grandsons, Robert, Jr. , Matthew, Jordan, and Nathan; two granddaughters, Kayla and Amber; and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Chrissy. He was also a stepfather to his wife’s children and a step-grandfather to her grandchildren. Bob was a devoted and caring husband, brother, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Little Ogeechee Baptist Church in Oliver, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the American Diabetes Association.
