U.S. Veteran

Dean “Mike” Cusic, 87 years of age of Tendoy, Idaho passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho. Dean LaVern Cusic was born on January 21, 1926 in Endicott, Nebraska the son of Joseph Nelson and Mae (Smith) Cusic. His parents couldn’t agree on a name for him, so he always went by “Mike”. Following Mike’s graduation from High School he joined the Navy where he served as a tail gunner during WWII and was honorably discharged. He returned to Idaho where he worked near Dubois for the Sheep Station spending most of his time out in the mountains tending sheep. He loved working out on the range with his wife Carole of 42 years. They worked together for many dude ranches and loved every minute of it. Mike was an excellent horseman. He knew just how to train them and could teach them to do most anything with ease. In his spare time Mike was an artist working mostly with oil paints. He would paint on anything he felt suitable from canvas to saw blades. He is survived by his wife Carole Cusic of Tendoy, Idaho; two sons: Chip Cusic of Hobbs, New Mexico, Jeff Cusic of San Francisco, California; two daughters: Renee and Jim Aris of Bozeman, Montana, Sue Duenow of Anchorage, Alaska; step son Joe Richard Ling and wife Darla of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five step daughters: Fran and Allen Smith of Carmen, Idaho, Bonnie Wells, Kathy Milne and Chris Rogers and companion Terry Freeman all of Salmon, Idaho, Karen and Jerry Patrick of Dillon, Montana and several grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister Debra Cody, step daughter Janet Nichols and step son Robert Milne.
