Norman E. McCarroll, 71, of Chandlersville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2013 at Genesis Morrison House after a brief illness. Born November 18, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio he was the son of the late Joel McCarroll and Alta (Stidham) McCarroll Halsey. Norman and his father owned and operated McCarroll Distributing Company, a dry-ice distributorship with offices in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, Indianapolis and Terre Haute, Indiana until 1979. He also partnered with his father with a rural Times Recorder paper route for 17 years until 2008. Norman was a United States Marine Corp veteran where he was trained as a truck driver. He was a certified lifeguard since his Marine Corp days and was responsible for saving many lives throughout his lifetime, including saving a local couple from a house fire after their home was struck by lightning. Norman was generous and good-hearted and always was ready to help anyone in need. He was involved in Hospice work with several patients and their families, and was a good listener and friend to everyone. Norman loved fishing, hunting, and anything to do with the outdoors as well as driving, sightseeing, and photographing animals and scenery. He was a member of Irville Lodge #184, F. & A. M. at Nashport. Surviving is his dearest friend and caregiver, Jacquelin McCarroll of Chandlersville, and his best friend, Kenneth Bartels of Dayton, Ohio. It was Norman’s request that he be cremated and there be no calling hours. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 105 South Sixth Street, Zanesville with the Rev. J. Reginald Martin officiating.
