Military graveside services originally scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 31, 2013, will now be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery.

Duffield, VA – Hershel Paul “Doggie” Bull

Hershel Paul “Doggie” Bull, 79, of Duffield, Virginia, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center (Kingsport, TN).

Mr. Bull was born June 20, 1933 in Kentucky. He was the son of the late John Bull and Lora Mays Bull.

During his lifetime, Mr. Bull worked as an electrician in several different positions. He retired from Cumberland Resources in 2011.

Mr. Bull was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in several overseas locations.

Mr. Bull was a member of Thomas Village Baptist Church (Duffield, VA).

He loved sports and loved to actively participate in games such as bowling and putt-putt golf. Mr. Bull was also an avid traveler. He and his wife had most recently enjoyed a trip to Alaska. He was also fond of fishing, boating, and spending weekends on the lake.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bull is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Bull; 2 brothers, David Bull and Daniel Bull; and a daughter, Jessie Lynn Bull Buchanan.

Survivors of Hershel “Doggie” Bull include his wife, Jessie Myers Bull (Duffield, VA); 2 daughters, Pamela Ann Saversky and husband Frank (Silver Spring, MD), and Pennye Bull Barry and husband Richard (Kingsport, TN); 9 grandchildren, Sandy Dougherty, April Bull, Samantha Bishop, Derek Buchanan, James West Taylor, Adam Wilson, Shina Wilson, Julie Saversky, and Angie Saversky; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rada Bull (Middlesboro, KY), and Betty Trosper and husband C.D. (Norton, VA); many, many special friends, former co-workers, and family members including, Gail Kiser, Robbie Stallard, Judy Kaine (niece) and Sharon Dotson (niece).

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home (Weber City, VA). A funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Military graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery (Weber City, VA). Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Colonial Funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #3 / #265 and members of the Virginia National Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
