At the end of a life fully lived, Dewein H. “Nap” Naffziger died peacefully in Athens, Ohio surrounded by family. Born and raised on a farm outside Delavan, Illinois, Nap was the son of Arthur and Golda Naffziger.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1953 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, and there he met his wife, Mary Clark Naffziger. They moved to San Francisco, California in 1954, during which time Nap served in the military. Upon discharge, he was employed at General Motors in Anderson, Indiana, and later worked as Manager of Melting Sales at Ajax Magnathermic, in Warren, Ohio. In 1969, he became president of, Advance Achievement Systems, Inc. During his career, Nap traveled the globe as a consultant in the foundry industry. He authored numerous technical papers, and held several patents. He had a keen interest in computer technology, enjoyed film and film-making, playing (and winning at) poker, and spending good times with people he loved. Nap also had his pilot’s license and enjoyed boating. He was an adventurer!
He leaves behind his wife, Mary, whom he wed in 1953; his children – Deni (daughter) and Mark Hackworth, Deborah Anderson (daughter), Patricia Naffziger (daughter), Drew (son) and Kim Naffziger, Tony (son) and Pauline Naffziger; seven grandchildren – Hilary Ray and Ella Hackworth, Nick and Bridget Naffziger, Starr, Dylan, and Tristan Naffziger; his sister, Norma Brenneman and her husband, Richard; and many nieces and nephews.
Dewein was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dale and Bud Naffziger, his daughter, Mary Agnes, and his son-in-law, Greg Anderson.
Funeral Mass will be recited Monday, February 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Christ the King University Parish, Mill and Stewart Streets, Athens with Father Mark Moore as celebrant. Visitation for family and friends will be after the Mass at the church. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
