Home going celebration for Ms. Evelyn Louise Ballard who passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at her residence will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church, 3707 East Chelsea Street, Tampa, Florida with Pastor B. E. Garmon, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, FL.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Carrie Murray) Ballard and daughter, Doris Williams-Varner.

She leaves to cherish loving memories of her with a caring sister, Doris V. Scott and husband, Robert, Sr.; two loving and caring grandchildren, Benjamin Pelsey and wife, Fredricka of Jacksonville, Florida and George S. Varner, Jr.; nephew, Robert R. Scott, Jr.; niece, Bridget Scott Orey and husband, Pedro of Daytona Beach, Florida; great niece, Pavonne’ Scott; great nephews, Robert Scott, III (Elise) and Michael Parrish; cousins, Mattie Taylor of Chicago, IL, Ethel L. Harris Of Tampa, Howard Harris (Carol), Keith Harris, Gloria Ballard and Cynthia Ballard; dedicated and loving caregiver, Doretha Maxwell and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.

Ms. Evelyn Louise Ballard was born to the parentage of Mr. & Mrs. William (Carrie Murray) Ballard on September 26, 1929 in Tampa, Florida. Raised in East Tampa, Evelyn attended the public schools of Hillsborough County where she was a star basketball player. Evelyn was a member of the Middleton High School graduating class of 1947.

Converted at an early age under the pastorate of the Rev. J. W. Watkins, Evelyn was an active but quiet member of First Union Missionary Baptist Church. Evelyn loved her church family and was especially thankful for the Deacon’s Ministry that faithfully visited her in her home or hospital to serve her communion every first Sunday.

Her remains will repose on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
